Why these four figures matter
Distance tells only part of the story. Ascent per kilometre shows climbing density; cut-off minutes per kilometre exposes how much time the organiser allows on average; aid spacing gives a first approximation of carrying demand.
Before entering, check surface, navigation, remoteness, mandatory kit, drop bags, total descent, start time and refund or transfer terms. A race with gentler headline numbers may still be the harder choice for your experience.
